To few kilometers of Santillana we found another one of the great artistic treasures of Cantabria; the Caves of Altamira. Discovered in 1879 by Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola and his daughter Maria, and declared by UNESCO patrimony of the humanity the caves contain about 150 engravings that constitute one of the expression examples artí stica of the man of the paleolítico of the world. They emphasize the figures of bisons and red deers.
